discussion in Bathroom with Henry and guy
Yes, unfortunately that was to be expected. She got the impression that she was disregarded and was happy when she went into her room and didn’t bother the others. No cuddling with the others nor common ground. Actually, the 5 wheel on the wagon is more of a competitor than a community. Too bad.
Our interpreter friend seems to think she was at least accused of it, I guess…
New strangers, or one or two from the circle
What Marica was accused of was not really theft. One needs to understand the Russian environment.
If you work in an office, you may find out that many are taking printer paper for their use at home. It is almost universal. To the employees it almost feels like an the expected thing to do. So when Mira was shaking up the team because they had a deficit, one of the thing she started pointing out was that they were not money conscious and were buying things such as food and some clothes regardless of price. To Marica specifically she pointed out that the way she spent the money on party food makes her suspect that she Marica was using a portion of the money to help her folks. One one hand that is was is almost expected. On the other it still hurts when you are being singled out with such words
So we figure she got tired of the bs and decided to quit. But I doubt she’ll be back to room with anyone but one of her friends here
Are you trying to say that stealing is built into the Russian culture as socially acceptable? That doesn’t seem right. Where I live doing something like that would get your ass fired or at the very least written up and reprimanded.
Methinks our interpreter friend interprets things to suit his own agenda
Right! There was conversation about economy not about any stealing
In the old Sovieet Union and Eastern Europe there was a parallel underground economy to the disastrously inept socialist economy. This underground economy was based on theft and illegal commers and corruption on daily and every level including workplace stealing, which was not seen as stealing but as a way to survive necessary and acceptable by even otherwise most honest people. By now a lot less common some of this mentality still exist in Russia and former soviet block countries.
Although not as prevalent, the western world that we are lucky to live in also has its share of underground economies that many do not have a daily awareness.
Russian society is organized in such a way that anyone can be accused of some financial crime almost at any time. Any time the regime decides that you have become their political opponent, they will always find something to accuse you off which will land you for many years in jail. Take the example of Navalny.
True. A lot of what said had to do with the economy. But there was accusation against Marica that she used money to be used for parties to help her family
I have no agenda. I translate it as I hear it. Often I translate less than what I hear.
What is your agenda in making that statement ?
The most descriptive comment I’ve ever read. When I saw the things like shampoo or socks etc. they looted in Ukraine, I did not fully understand.
Bercee is totally right. He appears to understand Russia and its history.
You had an opportunity to help us out in the kitchen yesterday as cam 2 was perfectly clear without any fan noise but we had no response from you? Just wondered why?
I do not work for you.
I am available to translate only when I am available. I do have a day job.
If some situation of real relevance arises, I may go back in time and replay a situation once or several times when the sound is muffled for any reason.
