I understand that Orthodox Christians believe that Jesus was born on the 7 January, why not the 25th December?
No the date is same. They just use a different Calendar. (Julianic vs. Gregorian Calendar)
Really interesting question. As a matter of fact for those who believe then he was actually born in late summer/early autumn - shepherds would not watch their flocks outdoors in the depth of winter and also the astrological signs mentioned would not have occured in December 25th December was hijacked as it seemed a good time for a celebration/feast
