When he wrote it as, “…one is the other one is ten a penny”, nothing clicked because 1) I didn’t understand the significance of, “…one is the other,” and 2) I read it all as one saying.
When you wrote just, “…ten a penny,” the light clicked on and I remembered from decades ago, as a kid, we always heard it as “ten for a penny, usually when talking about penny candy.”
