the best way to explain soccer and football!
germanys best “somewhat different” (own) goals of 2025… to put it another way
We have a topic on the forum called “Did (Do) you know”. Allow me to combine it with this topic just for once.
Did you know there once was a football match which ended 9-0, where the goalkeeper on the losing side was named “Man of the Match”?
On the 1st of November 1972 Norway played against the Netherlands in Rotterdam, and lost the match 0-9. It was a Dutch team led by Johan Cruijff, so any team could have lost that match back then.
Still six months shy of my teens, but I remember to this day watching the match on TV. Sure, the Norwegian goalkeeper Per Haftorsen let in nine goals, but he had more than nine spectacular saves during the match! If it hadn’t been for him, the end result could have been off the charts. The Dutch team was most impressed by him after the match.
I got inspired to do this post when I noticed that Per Haftorsen passed away yesterday at the age of 79. He’s one of the best Norwegian goalkeepers I can remember seeing. Per Haftorsen got 11 matches for the Norwegian national team.
