That’s going to be costly and definitely an expanse they didn’t need! But thankfully it wasn’t any worse. I had a friend of mine that lost everything when the person that lived above her went out, had a lit candle that caught something on fire. This was a 2 unite house and pretty well burned down to the ground.

Something very similar to what happened today at Draca’s happened at our house.
We had an Advent wreath with candles lit. It was in another room, left unattended. When the first candle burned down, it set the dried-out twigs on fire. And because the wreath was sitting on a cabinet against the wall, it also set fire to the tapestry, which was all the rage back in the ’80s.
By chance, we noticed it just in time and were able to prevent major damage. That was a shock of a lifetime, I tell you. I’ll never forget how close that call was.
But there was one silver lining. We were finally able to get rid of that ugly tapestry.

Yup, you only have to have a scare like that once (or in my case what happened to a friend) to re-enforce the safe use of candles.
As beautiful as real candles are.
But we’ve since done away with all candles. And switched to battery-powered ones. They flicker just like real candles.
But since they run on batteries—maybe not entirely eco-friendly, but significantly safer if you forget to turn them off.

Absolutely! I have both hard wired and battery operated as a back up. I change the batteries every year on my birthday for fresh ones. I know they will last longer but just to be safe I do it. Very cheap if you consider if the hard wired ones fail and it’s the battery operated ones that save my life.
