If you like growing indoor, or tropical plants…this is the place for chatting, questions, pics.
Nice!
My collection of indoor plants may not be among the largest, especially after I had to reduce it by half due to a lack of space. Currently, it consists of around 80 pots featuring a variety of different species, with the Monstera being my favorite variety.
Although it’s not as extensive as it once was, I still take great pride in nurturing each plant. The Monstera, in particular, holds a special place in my heart with its striking leaves and resilient nature. Despite the downsizing, my collection continues to bring me joy and a sense of tranquility, transforming my living space into a green oasis.
Started this thread because I LOVE growing tropical house plants! I live in the NW US, and winters are kind of cold. My collection out grew the house, so I started growing my tropical plants in a couple of small greenhouses! A great place to be on a cold day…it can be 70 f.!
I grow weed
from my user name you might’ve guess that I do as well
hmm…why is there no ‘weed leaf’ emoticon?
Too many snowflakes here
I live in Europe, in hardiness zone 7B. Today, on my birthday, it snowed, and we are transitioning into a polar cold snap with temperatures dropping to 7 degrees below zero. My greenhouse is solely dedicated to vegetables, currently planted with leeks, chard, and parsley. During the season, it thrives with tomatoes.
Inside my home, however, I have a fairly well-equipped setup for indoor growing, plants or vegetable-sidlings. I have two grow tents with automated systems for lighting, humidity, and ventilation (Mars Hydro). This setup allows me to cultivate a variety of plants year-round, regardless of the harsh weather outside. It’s a perfect balance between my love for gardening and the challenges posed by the climate I live in.
I have all the necessary equipment that would allow me to grow weed, but it is strictly prohibited here, and to be honest, I don’t have any desire to do so. The equipment I have is perfectly suited for nurturing a wide range of plants, and I prefer to focus on creating a thriving indoor garden that aligns with my interests and the legal framework of my country. Gardening, for me, is about connecting with nature and enjoying the beauty and benefits it provides, rather than venturing into anything that might conflict with the law.
Fortunately, I live in a place where it is legal. Even thought I don’t imbibe as much as I used to, it’s a fun and rewarding plant to grow…kinda like tomatoes
We are in the middle of a cold snap…25 f with 50 mph winds, and 3" of snow! Supposed to end today.
We lost electricity for 11 hrs, and I had to move most of the plants to our basement in the middle of the blizzard! That SUCKED!
Ha, Ha, Ha…not sure where you are, but ‘Snowflake’ has a couple of meanings here…one, not necessarily related to the weather
It’s legal where I come from as long as it’s for personal use
here, you can give it away but cannot sell it! Lots of free stuff in the fall!
Here, any form of possession, cultivation, sale, or anything related to weed is criminally prosecuted. Engaging in any kind of cultivation could land you behind bars. Even growing for medical purposes is strictly regulated and requires an incredible amount of administration, bureaucracy, and oversight. Not to mention, it is taxed to the extreme. The legal framework is so restrictive that it discourages most people from even considering it, regardless of their intentions. It’s a complex and heavily controlled system that leaves little room for flexibility or personal use.
Everything that is available comes strictly from the black market. This underground network operates outside the law, making it both risky and unreliable. The lack of regulation means there’s no guarantee of quality or safety, and those who engage in it face significant legal consequences. It’s a situation that highlights the challenges and complexities of the current system, where demand persists but legal avenues are virtually nonexistent.
That was the same here…although most here was domestically grown, quality and safety were wildcards. Legalization has solved that, and brought the govt. 25% tax revenue. They limit the # of legal growers allowed and track the product every step of the way. But there is a huge over supply, and some goes to other blackmarket places. But prices are way down, and quality and variety is exceptional! Edibles, oils, fresh bud, vapes, and even plants are at dispensaries…which are everywhere!!!
Here is a summary of the legislation:
In xxxxxx, the use of marijuana for personal purposes, including so-called recreational use, is illegal. According to the legislation of xxxxxx, the possession, cultivation, sale, or distribution of marijuana is a criminal offense punishable under the Penal Code.
Key Points:
- Possession for Personal Use:
If caught with a small amount of marijuana for personal use (typically up to 5 grams of dried substance), it is treated as a misdemeanor rather than a criminal offense. However, this can still result in penalties such as fines or mandatory treatment. - Cultivation for Personal Use:
Cultivating marijuana, even in small quantities for personal use, is a criminal offense. The penalty depends on the scale of cultivation and the circumstances but may include fines or even imprisonment. - Recreational Use:
Recreational use of marijuana is not legalized and is prohibited. Xxxxxx does not have a system that allows the sale or use of marijuana for recreational purposes. - Medical Use:
Medical use of marijuana is permitted in xxxxxx but is strictly regulated. Patients require special authorization and a prescription from a doctor, and the medication must be officially approved. Cultivation for medical purposes is not allowed without proper authorization. - Black Market:
Since recreational use is prohibited, marijuana is typically obtained on the black market, which carries risks such as unknown substance quality and criminal consequences.
Current Trends:
In recent years, there has been ongoing debate in xxxxxx and elsewhere about the potential legalization or decriminalization of marijuana for recreational use, but so far, no major legislative changes have been made. Currently, the use of marijuana for personal purposes remains illegal in xxxxxx, except in very specific medical cases under strict supervision.
Wow that sucks!
Do you mind if I ask which counrty?
If not, thats ok too.
Here on the West Coast US you can have 6 plants in any stage, and 2 oz of dried for personal use.
This strict enforcement has personally put me in an uncomfortable position. I have an extensive setup for growing, with a dedicated space in my house equipped with grow tents, all the necessary wiring and lights, and the risk of a police visit was almost a hundred percent certain. However, I strictly grow and develop plants and vegetables. Every spring, I produce around 1,000 vegetable seedlings. I use the tents as quarantine spaces for plants, and the shelves with lights for plant propagation. Because of all this, I’ve made it a point to show every visitor, every guest, and every neighbor around, so they can see for themselves what’s happening in my home. And of course, everyone notices the lights, and many initially assume I’m growing weed. But when they see the jungle in my space, it immediately becomes clear.
As a result, I receive a lot of requests for plant seedlings, vegetable seedlings, and I also take in many houseplants that need rescuing because they were dying under their previous owners. These rescue plants have also helped me build my collection. Very few of my plants are personal purchases, and the most expensive among them (50 euros) is a Monstera Thai Constellation, which was so cheap because it was in extremely poor condition at the nursery. Here, beautiful specimens still come with astronomical price tags, with a single leaf costing around 250 euros.
I learned so much about Houseplants from this topic, now i even consider starting to grow one myself
Your sarcasm is out of place, John. The topic was opened just two hours ago, with the main question being about what we grow. It seems a bit unclear to me why you’re intervening before the discussion has even had a chance to take off.
Or perhaps I misunderstood your comment? In that case, I sincerely apologize.
