Discussion about Russian invasion of Ukraine

to be fair I can not ,I dont know a lot about Russia history

Didn’t the Russian President say in an interview that Ukraine and Russia have thousands of connections… I don’t think that Ukrainians and Russians will be as stupid as Serbs and Croats to fight for other interests …

A friend of mine just sent me this and it shows American tanks on the railways heading towards the eastern Polish border with Ukraine.

I guess we have our own indicator here on VHTV that if Lucas goes running out the door from Amelie & Lucas then we will know something is up as he is in the reserves.

BBC reports. Japan, Latvia, Norway, the Netherlands, Britain, Germany, France and the US have called on their citizens to leave Ukraine immediately.

I really hope and pray nothing happens, but the next few days are critical.

The BBC say this will happen before the end of the winter Olympics. There is a lot of hot air from American and British media outlets. I doubt there will be war but at the same time I hope I’m right.

I hope and pray you are right as anyone in their right mind wouldn’t want that.

But here in Poland in the last couple of days there has been a massive build-up of American and British troops on the Belarus boarder near Bielsk Podlaski and the Ukraine boarder near Jaroslaw. :persevere:

Because Putin is looking like Hitler. He will take a country or part of it and if he gets away with it he will do it again until as in World War 2, a line has to be drawn. The threat to Ukraine is a threat to the Baltic States and to Poland because, they will be next if he conquers Ukraine. If he does invade Ukraine it will be a tragedy, for Ukraine of course, but also for Europe which will once again be on the brink of a World War. I am sure the Russian people do not want this. It is ridiculous of Putin to suggest that the West or NATO is a threat to Russia or its people. The people of the West do not want any war let alone one with Russia and the strength of democracy is that Governments can’t just warmonger of their own volition like Putin can. Lets hope that diplomacy may yet triumph and we can live together in harmony as I am sure most of us want.

When you have an unbalanced person in charge of a nation what do you expect. :cold_sweat: :cold_sweat:

Yep, Bojo hasn’t helped the situation with his visit to Poland. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I think he has completely different problems in his own country and hoped that you talk about something else.

BoJo speaking about Russia breaking rules, he’s the perfect person to speak about that having plenty experience in that.

Just found it amusing that Johnson thought he could change anything seeing as he was the worst foreign secretary in living history and not the best person to get involved.

In German there is a saying: “make the buck a gardener”.

In English they say: " to put the fox in charge of the henhouse"

well if you pick a war with Russia there is only 1 winner, if England are not careful its good night ,England we will get torn apart ,but I sure our monkey prime minster will sort something ,then have a party

I am British and have lived in the central European country of Poland now for 19 years and history is a hobby of mine and over these years I have studied the history of central and eastern Europe, which has a deep and fascinating past.

When you study Putin, he is far from stupid, and he is a keen historian and studies it profusely and one of his irritations with history is how quickly the Germans rolled into Russia with their tanks in World War II. Knowing this, he has throughout his term in power tried to keep a buffer zone between Russia and countries which he deems are threats to Russia.

If you look at the map of Russia, you can see that for the most part its boarders are surrounded by former Soviet countries which he maintains as buffer zones; that’s why it was so important recently for Russia to send in ‘peacekeeping f___es’ in December’s unrest in Kazakhstan in order to maintain the status quo for a significant part of its border.

This is why he puts up with the megalomaniac Alexander Lukashenko as well, with Belarus maintaining that buffer zone.

And this is the main reason why he needs Ukraine to be neutral which they sort of agreed to when giving up their 5,000 nuclear weapons in 1996 after the Budapest Memorandum, signed by Russia, Ukraine, Britain and the United States, promising that none of the nations would use f___e or threats against Ukraine and all would respect its sovereignty and existing borders.

However, none of this countries envisaged the rise of a leader like Putin and after Russian troops invaded Crimea in early 2014 and stepped up a proxy war in eastern Ukraine, and Putin dismissed the Budapest accord as null and void, basically saying it wasn’t in Russia’s best interests to maintain this agreement.

He is far from stupid and is one of the best political chess players in the world and if he can see a strategic move, he will calculate the risk of reward of those actions and act accordingly, having the bulls to do it, which the west doesn’t have.
