Discussion about Russian invasion of Ukraine

As one report in our media here in the UK has just said, the s__t has really hit the fan now

World War 3 time

Of course Russia are denying it, a report in Russian state media

The Russian Defense Ministry called the statements of the Polish media and officials about the fall of allegedly Russian missiles in the area of PrzewodĂłwow a provocation, there were no strikes by Russian means of destruction near the Ukrainian-Polish border. This was stated by the Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday.

in Poland, on the border with Ukraine, two missiles hit grain dryers The Prime Minister of Poland convened an urgent meeting of the government’s security and defense committee The Hungarian Defense Minister discussed with NATO Secretary General the incident in Poland

“Statements by the Polish media and officials about the alleged fall of “Russian” missiles near the village of Przewowow is a deliberate provocation in order to escalate the situation. No strikes were carried out on targets near the Ukrainian-Polish state border by Russian means of destruction,” the department said.

As the Russian Defense Ministry emphasized, the photos of the wreckage published by the Polish media from the scene have nothing to do with Russian means of destruction.

Earlier on Tuesday, Polish radio ZET, citing unofficial sources, said that two missiles hit grain dryers in a village in eastern Poland, located on the border with Ukraine. The incident occurred in the village of PrzewĂłwow in the Lublin Voivodeship. According to the radio station, two people were k__led. The affiliation of the missiles is not specified in the message.

Nahhh don’t really think so, Russia wouldn’t have the guts as they, like anybody else, would know what the final outcome would be.
They may be stupid but they certainly ain’t senile

Der Kreml behauptet natĂŒrlich, dass die Raketen gar nicht von Russland kamen
 :man_facepalming:

Yeah and Santa’s sleigh is now nuclear powered

And if it’s proven to be Russian missiles, the Kremlin will blame the West, since sanctions have left Russia with no precession weapons.

It looks like they really gone and done it now. They are rattling NATO now. This confirms my fear that they would do this. This is testing NATO a very unwise thing to do.

Rockets landed in the NATO state Poland and k__led two people, a senior US intelligence officer confirmed.

The rockets fell in Przewodow, a village in eastern Poland, close to the Ukraine border where they exploded.

They struck grain silos on a farm with police and the army racing to the scene in the aftermath.

The incident could have serious ramifications because Russian missiles have k__led in a NATO country, during its ongoing war in Ukraine. Poland could opt to invoke NATO’s article 5 which states an attack on one member state is treated as an attack on them all.

A press secretary for the Pentagon said: “When it comes to our security commitments and Article 5, we have been crystal clear: we will defend every inch of NATO territory.”

Russia denied reports of the missile impacts and claimed they were a ‘deliberate provocation’ but Ukraine said that it had warned of such an attack for a long time.

At 8pm GMT, government ministers in Poland are meeting thought to be discussing the development.

Poland’s Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, convened the Committee of the Council of Ministers for National Security and Defence Affairs “as a matter of urgency”, government spokesman Piotr MĂŒller confirmed.

Polish armed f___es are reportedly on ‘high alert’ and military planes were reportedly scramb__d in response and were in the air in the region.

The two people who were k__led were said to have died at the scene following the impact of the rockets, thought to have happened some time this afternoon.

Initially, local fire services confirmed an explosion in the area but it later emerged that rockets had fallen there.

Images from the impact site of the rockets show burnt and twisted farm equipment, destroyed by the rockets and a huge crater in the ground.

Further pictures show large bits of metal debris were thrown across the area as well.

Reports suggest local residents heard two explosions when the rockets fell, and the area remains cordoned off as Polish authorities investigate.

There has been no word yet from the Polish government but Russian weapons causing the death of citizens within a NATO member state will likely raise tensions further.

The British Foreign Office said: “We are aware of these reports and are urgently seeking clarity.”

Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky warned Russian terror would only continue to spread. In a video message, he said: "Today, something that we have been warning for a long time has also happened. Terror is not limited to our state borders. Russian missiles hit Poland
 hit missiles on NATO territory.

What is Article 5 in NATO and what would it mean if triggered in Russia-Ukraine war?

NATO’s Article 5 focuses on the principle of collective defence, and that any of its members is duty-bound to come to the aid of any other under attack.

The bloc itself says this focus on ‘collective defence’ is at the ‘very heart of NATO’s founding treaty’.

Simply put, an attack on one NATO member is an attack on all NATO members. So a deliberate attack on Poland is an attack on the UK and US according to the treaty.

Article 5 was last used in the aftermath of the 9/11 attack.

“It’s a matter of time before Russian terror goes further. The longer Russia feels impunity, the more threats there will be for anyone who is in range of Russian missiles.”

Latvia’s Minister of Defence, Artis Pabriks, tweeted: "My condolences to our Polish brothers in arms. Criminal Russian regime fired missiles which target not only Ukrainian civilians but also landed on NATO territory in Poland.

“Latvia fully stands with Polish friends and condemns this crime.”

The Estonian Foreign Ministry: “Latest news from Poland is most concerning. We are consulting closely with Poland and other Allies. Estonia is ready to defend every inch of NATO territory. We’re in full solidarity with our close ally Poland.”

The Russian Defence Ministry said: "Statements by the Polish media and officials about the alleged fall of ‘Russian’ missiles in the area of the settlement of Przewodow is a deliberate provocation in order to escalate the situation.

Neighbouring Moldova was also affected by Russian strikes today after their bombardment knocked out power to much of the nation.

This comes after Russia launched a number of strikes today against the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

The Pentagon said it is looking into the reports but could not currently corroborate them. Pentagon press secretary Brigadier General Pat Ryder reportedly said: “When it comes to our security commitments and Article 5, we have been crystal clear: we will defend every inch of NATO territory.”

Adrienne Watson, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, said on Twitter that the agency had seen reports out of Poland and was working with the Polish government to gather more information.

Poland plays a vital role in NATO supplies reaching Ukraine and Russia has warned in the past of its actions.

Russian military leaders have also discussed using nuclear weapons, US officials warn

i am certainly not minimising the possible outcome of this incident believe me but, NATO needs to have it’s head screwed on very firmly right now as any action, rightly or wrongly, would ignite the whole powder keg.
I honestly think sense will prevail for the moment but who the hell knows now?.
Having said that there would not be a better time to hit Russia as they are almost on their knees right now.
I assume NATO would know where all their silo’s are which would obviously be a priority but fuck, what the hell am i saying.
Think i will stop now while i am a little ahead

But that is exactly what is dangerous. Because if Russia cannot defend itself conventionally, Putin will resort to nuclear weapons because he will see an existential threat to Russia, which he would actually be right about.

Yep a very difficult situation to which i can’t see any resolution to right now unless one side backs down. and i think there is more chance of finding rocking horse s__t.

Edit: sorry @robwin didn’t mean to reply to you i hit the wrong reply button

a number of additional countries have spoken out

  • French President Emmanuel Macron has asked for “necessary verification works” on the matter.
  • Belgium strongly condemned the incident, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said, adding his country will stand with Poland. “We are all part of the NATO family”, he said.
  • Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte said: “Serious reports about missiles landing in Poland and causing fatalities. We’re in close contact with Poland and our other NATO allies. It’s important now to establish exactly what has happened. We are monitoring the situation very closely.”
  • Canada said it is aware of the blast, and that the US is investigating unconfirmed reports of a stray Russian missile. “We are monitoring the situation, and we are in contact with Poland and other partners on this.”
  • Latvia called an emergency meeting on Wednesday morning to “assess the security situation”. Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins said: “I have called an emergency government meeting to listen to the reports of the responsible ministries and institutions on the security situation in the region and to be ready for further action.”
  • Estonian foreign minister Urmas Reinsalu said he is consulting with allies about a united and resolute response. “It is an extremely serious incident”: he said.

No problem :+1:

It’s probably Ukrainians who fired missiles inside Poland on purpose to pull Nato into this war

depuis ton premier message, rien n’a changĂ© : toujours aussi con !

There has to be a clear and strong answer to send to Russia. But also an answer to make it clear NATO will not attack Russian territory. They ship launching the two missliles should be destroyed and Ukraine should now get supplied with long range missiles and modern aircraft and battle tanks.

Everyone needs to keep a cool head until we know all the facts. Questions need to be asked.

  1. Establish what kind of rockets were used?
  2. If this was an accident, what was the intended target in Ukraine?
  3. How can a rocket hit an unintended target over 5 miles out?
  4. Where were these rockets fired from?
  5. Who gave the order?

I’m sure there will be many more questions but I suppose those are some of the big ones. Personally I think it will be very hard to show this was not intentional because many rockets today (even older ones) are quite accurate making it more difficult to prove it was an accident. Someone either fu*ked up (which I doubt) or more than likely this was done to try and threaten Poland who have helped supply Ukraine all along while sending a message to the G20 as they meet right now.

@Justice57844 I don’t think Ukraine is to blame or Poland. They don’t k__l their own people unlike Russia which has a long, long history of that.

@jabbath1987 Exactly because they don’t have to. If it really came to it Russia would be totally kicked out of Ukraine by a multinational f___e and when everything has settled Ukraine’s membership of NATO would probably be rushed through.

Russian rockets landing in Poland is ‘significant’ moment of war

Ukraine’s secret weapon: The medics on the front line

@robwin Yes I think NATO will keep a cool head until all the facts have been established. It will also be interesting to hear what Moscow says in the coming hours, not that it really matters as most of it is BS.

You said ‘powder keg’, well I really hope it doesn’t come to that. I don’t think anyone in Europe and elsewhere wants dragged into this but (like it or not) Article 5 is there for a good reason. I also think good sense will prevail because why would anyone in their right mind want the alternative?

Alright Poland was hit today (jeez I never thought I’d write that) as Ukraine including Kyiv was hit many times. But Kyiv is very close to the border with Belarus. What will Belarus ever say or do whenever they are ‘‘Accidentally’’ hit? Oh wait, they are good friends with Russia
