Or maybe it’s just a smudge or a fingerprint on the lens cover (the “glass” Ally spoke of) and it just needs a bit of cleaning.
The actual lens is rarely, if ever, exposed to prevent damage. The lens cover, most likely made of plastic, is what collects dirt, scratches, fingerprints, etc. The actual lens is that little round circle in the center. Your phone camera is a good example of this.
