I was just wondering if the lighthouse was on the shores of one of the Great Lakes in the States? It is an incredible image. Thank you for sharing this and all of the other images. Cheers
I am pretty sure this is a fake. The Helicopter they use seems to be a Boeing CH-47 and I highly doubt that any helicopter in the world can carry the weight of such a tower. You usually see these type of helicopters carry supply crates on pallets or sometimes light armoured vehicles like a HMMWV. They only weigh a fraction of such a tower. Even the world biggest helicopter the Mil Mi-26 would not be able to carry such a tower.
Edit: I googled it and the typical weight of such a tower is about 20 tons. The CH-47 can carry about 12 tons. So definitely a fake.
The other thing is that you won’t hang objects with such a big surface from a helicopter. Imagine one strong wind gust and the helicopter is doomed if the freight does not seperate in the same moment.
Thank you JonR for your assistance. Cheers
I’m glad you like them. I didn’t know when I downloaded the picture because there was no description, but Google Lens says it’s St Joseph Lighthouse on Lake Michigan.
Calmer seas.
Three different pictures of the same location, which capture in each case, three completely different moods and feels.
Oh my goodness they are stunning and I want to go there…thanks in particular to the mood created by the third one.
Thank you for posting them.
I guess in winter that lighthouse is not needed?
Or most likely it is no longer needed at all. I mean nowadays ships should have GPS…
You’re welcome. I’m glad you like them. There’s also a public beach right there where that pier is.
I’m not so sure about that, they do lift some very unwieldy stuff.
I have not found another exampe of chinook lifting this type of tower, but this here comes from a helicopter lifting company. They are using an Airbus Helicopters (formerly Eurocopter, formerly Aérospatiale) Puma AS332 C which only has a max payload of about 4.5 tons including fuel. So this tower segment may be about 1/3 of what a Chinook could lift.
There’s so many sizes and types of power line support towers, and the ones in the Chinook picture don’t seem particularly big, maybe these are within the Chinook’s payload capacity. And why go through the trouble of faking this pic when you can find similar, real pictures?
So maybe there are indeed lighter power line towers they can carry. 20 tons was the weight Google told me.
The Ross Sisters were an American trio of singers and dancers, who reached the top of their popularity in the 1940’s. Here’s a clip from the movie Broadway Rhythm (1944). where the trio was featured in this scene.
The Ross Sisters could sing, they could dance they could…what couldn’t they do
Patience, the “sisters” do not appear until around 1.30 mins in.
Today, hopefully, there’s going to be a spectacular, big rocket launch. Elon Musk’s SpaceX is going to send Starship, the the biggest and most powerful rocket ever built, on it’s 5th integrated flight test, and this time they want to try and catch the landing Super Heavy Booster with the lifting arms (aka chops sticks) of the launch tower (aka Mechazilla). The SpaceX live stream is going to be on X, formerly twitter:

If you don’t want to watch on X/Twitter I’d recommend the youtube channel NASASpaceflight (not official NASA).
Elon Musk. What to make of him? I absolutely hate his Twitter shenanigans and political stance. It once more proves that intelligence and stupidity are not mutually exclusive. But I’m utterly fascinated by the big strides his other company, SpaceX, is making in the space flight industry.
Here’s another highly interesting Youtube Channel, Everyday Astronaut. A good place to go when you’re interested in the technical details of space flight. And this youtuber, Tim Dodd, has landed an absolute jackpot twice now, when he got guided tours at SpaceX’s Boca Chica facilities, Starbase and Strafactory, with Elon Musk himself. You’ll see two technology nerds talking shop. A somewhat different look at this larger than life figure. He’ll go on for half an hour about the intricacies of cryogenic fuel valves or heat shield tile gaps.

May I just check something here please?
Did you mean to post this here or in one of the music threads (your own one, for example)? If it was intentional and I missed the point, please forgive me. I was just surprised to see it here, without any obvious (to me) context.
They are quite acrobatic and bendy!
Holy crap, they actually did it.
Damned, I made a screen recording of the whole thing, but in my excitement forgot to get the settings right and got no audio. Clip is above is from the videos that popped up on twitter instantaneously…
