I agree with you, it happen that mine was exactly like this on our beginning. First year was a pure love/hate drama movie 
And as you said, there are ways to deal with it. The one that works the best is to simply ignore her when she goes in this mood, she will calm down and soon will realize that she doesn’t get her way anymore by doing so.
