Because a sandman is not necessarily the same sandman.
The Kinks - Celluloid Heroes
For some reason I passed by this song tonight, One of my all time favourite songs, by one of my all time favourite bands.
I saw The Kinks live in 1992, I somehow managed to get a great view, looking straight at Ray Davies less than 10 meters in front of me. The goosbumps I got when they began playing this song is one of my fondest music memories.
Great song!!!
I have to admit that I never paid attention to The Kinks. The only song of theirs that I know of is “Lola.”
But there’s something about this song “Celluloid Heroes” that really suits my taste.
When I first noticed The Kinks sometime in the mid-70’s, this was one of the first songs I heard. I instantly fell for this band, and I still got loads of their LP’s. If you’d like to check them out more, there is plenty to choose from. One place to start may be in this topic, as I’ve posted a few Kinks songs above.
This song as a lovely story to it , Hallelujah sung by Kaylee Rogers and K__lard House School Choir in 2016. Copyright 2016 Kaylee Rogers/K__lard House School Kaylee, a student at K__lard House Special Needs School in Northern Ireland, who suffers from autism and ADHD; stunned the online world with a choir rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”.
Colin Millar, the school’s principal, told BBC News that Kaylee is often shy — but not when she sings.
“All my kids have talents, as well as barriers, and this is hers.”
“She’d be a very quiet little girl, but when she sings, she just opens up,” he said.
Kaylee started attending K__lard House a few years ago, in order to help her address learning delays. She’s overcome some incredible challenges to share that voice with the world and singing has helped her build up her confidence
“For a c___d who came in and wouldn’t really talk, wouldn’t really read out in class, to stand and perform in front of an audience is amazing. It takes a lot of effort on Kaylee’s part,” Millar said.
“Hallelujah”, written by Leonard Cohen over the course of five years, was recorded by dozens of famous artists. But, Cohen passed away in November 2016, just weeks before Kaylee Rogers’ rendition of his most famous song was released. Somehow, we’re sure that Cohen would approve of this stunning remake.
sometimes you wake up in the morning with a song in your head and you here it all day long
that was the thing with this jewel from the past
Dave and Ansel Collins - Double Barrel
Hal Ketchum - Past the Point of Rescue
The American singer and songwriter Hal Ketchum would have turned 71 today if he hadn’t passed away in 2020. In addition to being a good songwriter, he was was also an excellent singer. Let us celebrate his memory with one of his best known songs.
Emilíana Torrini - If You Go Away
This is one of those songs that was performed by lots of artists in several languages and styles but I think this is the best version.
Great Ray Davis, for me “Waterloo Sunset” is one of the best songs in rock history.
Have to agree there. I have posted Waterloo Sunset somewhere up above in this topic The Kinks at their best were just as good as their generally better known contemporaries the Beatles and the Stones.
Carl Perkins - Blue Suede Shoes
92 years ago today one of the pioneers of rock music was born. Carl Perkins wrote several songs that have become staples in rock, songs covered by “everybody”. Blue Suede Shoes is arguably better known best by a certain king of rock ‘n’ roll, but it was Carl who wrote it.
Carl Perkins may not be as relevant to rock music today. However, as I have said more than once here, he is one of the guys without whom a vast part of this forum topic would not have existed. Hell, there most probably wouldn’t have been rock music as we know it today if it hadn’t been for guys like Carl!
Jim Croce - I’ll Have To Say I Love You In A Song
I remember If You Go Away, and this is a great version. So I had to do some research on who has done this song. And wow, Frank Sinatra, Dusty Springfield, Shirley Bassey and so on. While doing this, a fine song by Jim Croce showed up in my recommendations, so why not share it here.
May I also take the opportunity to dedicate this song to all the lovely ladies on VHTV
And the original was in French by Jacques Brel who also sang the first version of what would become Seasons in the Sun later.
