Frank Sinatra - September Song (1965)

This song, written by Kurt Weill and Maxwell Anderson in 1939, adds another layer to September than just the name of the first month of autumn. Here’s the song and the impeccable voice of Old Blue Eyes,

I’d like to pay tribute to the Australian singer Gary Stephen Anderson, who passed away about a week ago at the age of 79. He’s best known as Angry Anderson, and he was the singer in Rose Tattoo. This band was formed in 1976, and was quite big in Australia. Some even argue they could have been as big as AC/DC. However, that did not happen, since AC/DC is most probably a better band.

Still, Rose Tattoo has had a good career, playing their solid bluesy hard rock. Not the biggest name outside Australia, but stll pretty well known on the hard rock circuit throughout the world. The band’s last gig was in Germany on the 7. of August 2026. Then just six weeks later it’s announced that Angry Anderson has passed away.

After around 50 years as the singer, Angry Anderson was the longest serving member of Rose Tattoo. So thank you for the music Angry, may you be remembered. :wine_glass:

Bridges - September (1980)

Still September, so here we go again…

Allow me a little music history before I stop for now. This song is taken from the album Fakkeltog (Torchlight Procession), released in 1000 copies in 1980. For some reason the album title is in Norwegian, but all the lyrics are sung in English.

Bridges evolved into A-Ha, the internationally biggest band in the history of Norwegian pop/rock. Their album has never been officially rereleased and is a highly sought after record among A-Ha fans. Currently one copy is for sale at Discogs for €1,999! And I used to own a copy

Bridges, 1980

From left: Viggo Bondi (bass), Pål Waaktaar (vocals and guitar), Øystein Jevanord (drums) and Magne Furuholmen (keyboards).

The bass player did not pursue a career in music, and became a lawyer instead. On the other hand, the drummer has had a good career in music here in Norway, drumming for several bands through the years, on occasions even helping out A-Ha when they needed a drummer.

Then of course there’s Pål and Magne, who became Paal Waaktaar-Savoy and Mags of A-Ha. They were still teenagers when this picture was taken. This is were it started.

Okay, okay… this is probably going to get a bit strange… but it is from Strange New Worlds, after all, so it fits.

I would have liked to hear “Romulan Rhapsody,” too.
