What's the best song you have heard today?

Thank you for your interesting input here. However, with all due respect, I think you may be overthinking this a little. Let me elaborate…

Well, sometimes it is, and very much so. Music has literally helped and healed me through difficult times in my life. Besides it can make you stop, think and reflect, which is a good thing. And it can be fun, which is a most important factor in life, if you ask me.

This topic is a sub-topic of the forum, where we music afficionados share songs, and sometimes thoughts about music in general. The thing you point out is more or less constantly being discussed in other topics in the main part of the forum.

We do have respect! Aleks’ tragic passing affected most of us. It was just sad and meaningless. Also, quite a few of us who regularly frequent this topic are of a slightly advanced age. We remember the funerals of our parents, wives, grandparents and close friends, so we do know a thing or two about grief and respect in these situations.

Still, life goes on, and this is just a sub-topic of a forum on an adult website. So let’s move on and share songs here. Remember, the songs can also bring back good memories of the loved ones we have lost. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels like this :musical_notes:

Allow me to pick up on the theme of songs and loved ones. Sadly my kid sister was recently diagnosed with cancer. I remember about 50-something years ago she used to pester me with one song.

I had a few of the early Alice Cooper albums back then, but for some reason one song never really clikced with me. And that was her favourite, which she played over and over :joy:

So here’s to my sister!
I hope you make it through this

The semi-legendary actress and model Edie Sedgwick was born 83 years ago today. Once again an actress and model in a music topic, but once again, this woman was the “muse” for several good songs. She is best known from her association with Andy Warhol and the Factory crowd in New York in the mid 1960’s.

Edie Sedgwick also hung out around Bob Dylan around that time, and is rumoured to be the inspiriation behind a couple of his best known songs, namely Like A Rolling Stone and Just Like A Woman. Dylan himself has never confirmed it, so wether it’s true or not is anybody’s guess. However, one song was explicitly written about her back then.

The Velvet Underground - Femme Fatale (1967)

Edie Sedgwick’s life was a tragic one. She was very pretty, and everybody wanted a piece of her. Unfortunately she could not handle it. Drugs and mental health issues became a major part of her life. In 1971 it got the best of her, and she died from an accidental overdose of alco-hol and barbituates. She was 28 years old.

Edie Sedgewick’s story is almost like and underground/alternative version of Marilyn Monroe’s story. Everybody wanted a piece of them. Since her passing, there’s been several songs written as a tribute to her.

The Cult - Edie (Ciao Baby) (1989)

The American singer, songwriter, guitarist and actor Glen Campbell (1936-2017) was born 90 years ago today. He was an excellent singer and is a big name in the history of country, pop and rock, with 80 songs charting in the various charts in the US. 29 of them made the top 10 and 9 got to number 1 in at least one of the charts. He also charted in several other countries

In 1986 Nick Cave popularized one of Glen Campbell’s best known songs for a rock audience. To celebrate the memory of Glen Campbell, here’s his own version of this song :beer_mug:

Glen Campbell - By the Time I Get To Phoenix (1967)

In 2011 Glen Cambell was diagnosed with Alzheimer, and during his last recording session he recorded a beutiful and moving tribute to his wife.

Glen Campbell - I’m Not Gonna Miss You (2014)

Glen Campbell was also a very skilled guitarist, who did a lot of session work in the 1960’s before and around the time his solo career took off. He plays on recordings by among others Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, The Monkees, Dean Martin and The Everly Brothers Here’s an example of his guitar skills.
