The American singer, entertainer and songwriter Neil Sedaka passed away yesterday at the age of 86. He’s not really among my favourites. Still, his career lasted from the mid 1950’s until his last concert in June last year. That is a career spanning an impressive 70 years! And he sold millions of records worldwide, both as an artist and songwriter. So I think he is well worth a mention in our topic.
Also, I like Oh, Carol, which may be Neil Sedaka’s signature song, It’s cheesy, but such a fun and catchy pop song. So as usual, thank you for the music Neil, may you be remembered. ![]()
Neil Sedaka - Oh, Carol (1959)
Brian Jones (1942-1969) was born 84 years ago today. Forever written into the history of rock ‘n’ roll as the founder and first guitarist in The Rolling Stones, one of the biggest bands there has ever been, and probably will ever be

The Rolling Stones - Cry To Me (1965)
The Rolling Stones - The Last Time (1965)
Thank you GladNGrumpy for this moving tribute for Brian Jones. Just by placing an ad in a musical newspaper a Legendary Band was formed. There first gig was in the Ronnie Scotts Jazz club.![]()
Your welcome iain! It’s my pleasure to feel the music memories I share are appreciated ![]()
Well, we would still have known about Mick and Keith and the others today. All of them were talented musicians on their own, so they would have made it one or the other.
Still, without Brian, no Rolling Stones!
The Rolling Stones - Under the Boardwalk (1964)
I assume you don’t mind me sharing yet another song, as a ttribute this very gifted musician, who unfortunately became a member of the infamous Club 27.
Willie Williams - Armagedeon Time (1979)
I don’t want to get too fatalistic, but right now we live in…peculiar times ![]()
Covert operation…?
Hey, it’s March, and thankfully February is over. Finally we have the first month of spring. Still, I don’t really trust March. It may have some nasty surprises up its sleeves. And it is a bloody long month!
Vangelis - The Long March (1979)
This will probably be the only song with “March” in it I’ll post in March. It seems that the vast majority of these songs are about the verb “to march”, not about the month of March. Still, got one in here now, for the long month ahead of us. ![]()
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Your Guardian Angel (2007)
It’s Rory Gallagher day again, and time to celebrate the memory of this great Irish guitarist. As legend will have it, Jimi Hendrix was once asked how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world. “I don’t know. Ask Rory Gallagher,” was his answer.
Who is the greatest may be a question for another day. Today it’s all about the memory of Rory Gallagher ![]()
Rory Gallagher - Do Yo Read Me (live 1977)
Rory Gallagher’s (allegedly) last appearence on TV in 1994.
Rory Gallagher’s last concert was in January 1995, but it was cut short due to his failing health. Five months later he passed away due to an infection after an otherwise successful surgical procedure. He was 47 years old.
Rory Gallagher was born 78 years ago today in the small Irish town Ballyshannon. At the hospital he was born there’s this plaque.
Just one more, as the American singer and songwriter Lou Reed (1942-2013) was born 84 years ago today. He was never among the most commercially successful artists, but a few of his songs have become standards in rock music, songs from both his time in The Velvet Underground and as a solo artist.
To celebrate the memory of Lou Reed, here’s a weirdly epic performance of one of his signature songs ![]()
Lou Reed, with Luciano Pavarotti - Perfect Day (live in Italy 2002)
