Complicated
My Happy Ending
Head Above Water
It’s been awhile since we’ve had a rundown of different versions of a song, So here we go
Green Day - I Fought the Law (2004)
The Clash - I Fought the Law (1979)
Bobby Fuller Four - I Fought the Law (1965)
The Crickets - I Fought the Law (1960)
There is a little more to this post than a rundown of an old standard tune, because eight days ago today the writer of this song passed away at the age of 88. His name was Sonny Curtis, and he was a member of Buddy Holly’s band The Crickets. Another well known song written by him is The Everly Brothers’ smash hit Walk Right Back (number 1 in the UK and New Zeeland, number 3 in Canada and number 7 in the US). So thank you for the music and the songs Sonny, may you be remembered.
John Fogerty - Long As I Can See the Light
Of the four versions, my favorite would be Green Day followed by the original.
It’s a very good song. If I have to choose, mine would be Bobby Fuller’s, then the original
I don’t think there’s much difference between Bobby Fuller and the original. But everyone has different tastes, and that’s a good thing.
Kris Kristofferon - Here Comes That Rainbow Again
Today my YouTube recommendations brought me a Kris Kristofferon song I’ve never heard before. What a great song about human kindness. Another good song is another good day.
Just came on the radio the legendary 77 year old living legend Alice cooper
Another legend Bon Jovi
The first single I bought was “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper. That was in 1972.
Another classic song
Alice Cooper - Caught In a Dream
Since we’re at it, this is my introdoction to Alice Cooper, somewhere around 52 years ago this early autumn
Funny enough I got introduced to this song later in life another banger from Alice
Today Jerry Lee Lewis would have turned 90 if he hadn’t died in 2022.
For his 90th birthday, here is one of his big hits
Jerry Lee Lewis - Great Balls of Fire
SETYØURSAILS
Nightfall
Bad Blood
Ghosts
Just like three days ago I’d like to do a rundown of different versions of a song. Today’s song is Wild Is the Wind, a song written in 1957 by Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington. It is a beautiful song, but get ready for some melancholia.
George Michael - Wild Is the Wind (1999)
David Bowie - Wild Is the Wind (1976)
Nina Simone - Wild Is the Wind (1966)
Johnny Mathis - Wild Is the Wind (1957, the original recording)
Now, just like three days ago there’s a little more to this post than four vesrsions of one song. Because today the singer of the original version of this song is turning 90! Happy Birthday to Johnny Mathis.
Johnny Mathis was one of the best selling artists of the 20th century, with an estimated sales number of 360 million records worldwide! 73 of his albums charted in the US! The 1959 album Heavenly spent 295 weeks in the charts. And when it comes to best album selling artist between 1955 and 2009, he ranks at number 6.
Johnny Mathis career started in the mid 1950’s and lasted up until just recently. His last concert was on the 18. of May this year. This is a career spanning seven decades! And even though Johnny Mathis has officially retired now, which is natural given his age, he kept true to his calling as a singer for as long as he could. So once again, Happy Birthday to Johnny Mathis
Here’s to the memory of one of the best drummers ever. Buddy Rich (1917-1987) was born 108 years ago today. He was a jazz drummer with his own big band and quite the showwman too. Often considered to be one of the most influential drummers of all time. He was one of the inspirations for among numerous others John Bonham, Carl Palmer, Ian Paice, Bill Ward, Max Weinberg and Phil Collins. And those were just the rock drummers.
So here’s a couple of clips to the memory of Buddy Rich. The drummer is certainly the star of the show here
Buddy Rich - Bugle Call Rag (1982)
Buddy Rich Orchestra - Norwegian Wood (1967)
Happy Birthday to the Senegalese singer and songwriter Youssou N’Dour, who is turning 66 today! This man has released dozens of albums, many in Africa only, and is perhaps the most famous living artist in much of Africa today. He is also one of the best known African artists in the so-called the Western world, having collaborated with among others Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed, Sting and Paul Simon.
Youssou N’Dour, with Peter Gabriel - Shaking the Tree
Youssou N’Dour’s best known song in the Western world was released in 1994, when 7 Seconds, his collaboration with Neneh Cherry, became a big hit. The song got to number 1 in France and Switzerland, and to number 3 in the UK, Germany and Australia. It was also a minor hit in the US.

And when a child is born into this world
It has no concept
Of the tone of skin it’s living in
