I’d like to pay tribute to the American guitarist Brent Hinds, who tragically died in a motorcycle accident yesterday. He was 51 years old. He was the lead guitarist in Mastodon from the band’s formation in 2000 up until he quit the band in March this year. Thank you for the music Brent, may you be remembered.
I’d like to expand yesterday’s birthday tribute to James Burton a little, because 89 years ago today Dale Hawkins was born. He is best known for his hit Susie Q (which I misspelled yesterday ) from 1957. The song charted pretty high in both the US and Canada, and has since then been covered by many artists, perhaps most notebly by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Today Susie Q is a staple in rock history.
Dale Hawkins did a few more records, but Susie Q is probably the only song he’s remembered by today. Still he did enjoy a good, albeit low-key, career in music after this, producing records, hosting TV-shows and playing in a few bands. In 2010 he passed away due to cancer. Dale Hawkins deserves be remembered, so to his memory, here’s Susie Q
Dale Hawkins - Susie Q
Just a short note to end, yesterday we had James Burton at 84. In this video he is 18.
Happy Birthday to the English singer and songwriter Linda Thompson, who is turning 78 today! She was a very fine singer, and has been a well known figure on the British folk rock scene since the 1970’s. She’s best known for her work with guitarist Richard Thompson (Fairpot Convention), to whom she was married for ten years, and for her solo albums and guest appearances live and on record.
How come I wrote that Linda Thompson was a very good singer, yet she’s still alive? Well, the reason is that in the 1980’s she fell victim to a neurological disorder called spasmodic dysphonia, which affects a person’s voice. This is the reason why this excellent singer has only released five solo albums since her divorce from Richard Thompson in 1982. Medication has helped her do what she has done since then.
Linda Thompson is such a fine singer, and she represent British folk rock at its best. So I’ll have to post more than one song. So here we go, to celebrate Linda Thompson. Happy Birthday
Linda Thompson - Nine Stone Rig (2002)
Richard & Linda Thompson - I Want To See the Bright Lights Tonight (1974)
Richard & Linda Thompson - The Little Little Beggar Girl (1974)
Linda Thompson’s voice problems has gotten so bad in recent years, that on her latest reecord, Proxy Music (2024) she had to have other singers do her songs, among them her daughter Kami and her son Terry. Since this still is British folk rock at its finest, I might as well include one from this album too. It’s a lovely song, reflecting on life, written by Linda Thompson.
Ren Harvieu - I Used To Be So Pretty
In spite of it all, Linda Thompson still got a great sense of humour. Some of you might recognize the cover. It’s Proxy Music, right…
Sorry, I got a little carried away here, listening to fine British folk rock, while browsing nude girls and cats in between. If you forgive me, you are my friend
i’ve just seen on TV from Rockhard Festival 2025 this band: only 3 people - drums, bass, guitar - but really good rock.
on utube there is just the first song from that concert on TV and other full-live-concerts have terrible sound.
but i found a playlist that starts with that first song and good others.
so here is for our metal fans (especially one) Sanhedrin

Here’s to the momory of the American singer and songwriter Willy deVille, who would have turned 75 today. He started out in the band Mink deVille, who was one of the house bands at CBGB’s in New York when the punk/new wave scene were born there in the mid 1970’s.
However, Mink deVille turned out to be more than yet another punk/new wave band. Mixing their alternative rock with heavy doses of soul and R’n’B, the band soon gained a wider audience, and had quite a bit of success (albeit not commercially) until they broke up in 1986.
Willy de Ville then pursued a solo career. Just like with the band, he never gained much commercial success. Still he enjoyed a good solo career, and became a highly respected artist. In 2015 Bob Dylan said this: “…his voice and presentation ought to have gotten him in there by now”, there being the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 2009 Willy deVille passed away from cancer. He was a fine singer, who deserves all the recognition and mentions he can get. Here’s to Willy deVille’s memory
Mink deVille - She’s So Tough (live 1982)
Willy deVille - Come A Little Bit Closer (live 2006)
In 1987 Mark Knopler did his fourth soundtrack for the movie The Princess Bride. Willy deVille wrote the song Storybook Love for it, with Knopler arranging. Mark Knopler said this about Willy deVille: “Willy had an enormous range. The songs he wrote were original, romantic and straight from the heart”.

The great American guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan (1954-1990) passed away in a tragic helicopter accident 35 years ago today. Here’s one to celebrate his memory
Steve Ray Vaughn is and was one of Hellbillies member Lars Håvard Haugens very foremost inspirational sources when he formed his guitar playing technique back in the days when that was necessary for him. Hardly think that is needed for him any longer now. To put it mildly.
Hellbillies - Røta (live at Sentrum Scene, Oslo 2010)
Due to your comment, I went for some Hellbillies tonight, and came upon this. And I have to say, Lars Håvard has most cerainly honed his skills after picking up the guitar for the first time
Norwegian lyrics, but the more international forum members can at least enjoy some very fine guitar playing (from around 5.30). The song title Røta means The Roots in English.
just search for “It Ain’t Me” and wonder what comes out.
I just startet this one. It is not the CCR, Joan Baez(Bob Dylan) and not Kygo/Selena Gomez song.
It is an AI video by Lee Vyborny. They say it is a classic blues song. They say it is original written by Lee Vyborny. I do not know it. Also with lyrics i did not find something.
Ella is the name of the AI girl. If the name of the singer is Ella and if it is a real singer or different singers…i don’t know.
The woman might be/might not be actress Sarah Sashi.
Ella - It Ain’t Me
It is a playlist. If you do not stop it there comes more with that face/voice (or similar voices?)
The 3rd one is also “It Ain’t Me” but with lyrics.
John Phillips (1935-2001), one of the singers and the main songwriter in The Mamas & The Papas, was born 90 years ago today. In addition to classics like California Dreaming and Monday Monday, he’s also the writer of Scott McKenzie’s huge 1967 hit San Francisco. He was also one of the chief organizers of the Montery Pop Festival in 1967, the festival that was both Jimi Hendrix’s and Janis Joplin’s big breakthrough.
After The Mamas & The Papas broke up in 1968, John Phillips released John Phillips (John, the Wolf King of L.A. in 1970. It turned out to be his only solo album. Unfortunately drug problems then got the best of him. In addition, he apparently was an abusive person, so his legacy is somewhat tarnished.
Still, John Phillips has left us a few song that are staples in the pop/rock canon. So let’s forget his flaws for once, and celebrate the memory of the fine songwriter he was. His sole solo album is not the biggest classic, but it’s still a fine album, full of lush and catchy 1970’s West Coast pop/rock. So here’s one to John Phillips memory
Today I’d like to celebrate the memory of Sterling Morrison of The Velvet Underground (1942-1995). He passed away 30 years ago today, and was born 83 years ago yesterday. Perhaps the most low-key member of this legendary band, he was still an essential part of it.
Sterling Morrison’s syncopated rhythm playing and melodic lead parts on guitar provided the foil for Lou Reed’s more improvisational rhythm and lead guitar riffs. To Sterling Morrison’s memory, here’s Pale Blue Eyes, with him on lead guitar
