Here is the way it was intended to be solved:

The pets I was looking for were Snails. The ex-partcipant who had them was AlienGirl So we were looking for Alien Snails. The movie Evolution starts with Alien Snails evolving rapidly fast into other Alien species.

For the other question:
The Element Selenium was used in the movie to kill the Aliens in the end
Selenium is also a test framework for Web Applications which can help VHTV to improve the quality of the website.
