how do you use it in a example sentence?
It is when someone (normally someone you know) does something rather silly or stupid. Then you would call him or her a numpty. I hope that helps you. Cheers

Even though I do not use those two expressions frequently, I have heard about them even though I am not british originally. Might sound strange. But I know well the meaning of them in my own language.
