Entering the cafe tonight I’d like to propose a toast to the memory of Steve Broughton, drummer in the Edgar Broughton Band. He passed away last Sunday aged 72. Steve is yet another of the background musicians who rarely gets a mention, but without whom we would not have the great history of rock music we have today. Well, he gets a mention now! Thank you for the music Steve, may you be remembered. Time to hit the jukebox.

The Edgar Broughton Band was a mixed bag, but when they were at their best, they were really good. Third and fourth album is recommended. By the way, can I have a Ringnes ■■■■, please. Maybe a Fernet Branca on the side

Thank you, much obliged. I fully understand your priorities yesterday, and 4-1, way to go! I’ve had good feelings for Netherland’s national team since the 70s. Many of the football heroes of my teens were Dutch. Johan Neeskes, Rob Rensenbrinck, Arie Haan, Johhny Rep and, not forgetting the greatest of them all, Johan Cruijf, still my all time favourite player
