You have become like me. Clearly conciously nicer.
Thatâs kind of you to say so.
My hatred for Lightroom nearly made me throw my computer out of the window WITHOUT opening it first, both when I first tried to use it AND when I typed about it here on the page.
Imagine the mess and damage that would have caused!!! Thank goodness I thought better of it.
In case anyone doesnât know the site yet: PEXELS.COM is a great source for free stock photos, royalty free images & videos.
Here is an example link with the search for cats:
https://www.pexels.com/search/cats/
If anyone knows of comparable sites, please feel free to share them in this topic.
just search with âpics Creative Commons Zero (CC0) licenseâ (google of course)
most of the pics of the sites are free to use. some even for what ever you want.
but be aware: there are some pics placed as baits to pic-selling sites.
The search for âblowjobâ came up empty, the search for âpenisâ showed me pens. Nah, that website is utterly useless.
Well to be fair, itâs intended for those of us who want to find suitable stock images for such things as photo compositing (an immensly fun and rewarding activity if done right).
Most of that isnât likely to involve graphic sexual activity or display of ânaughtyâ body parts, particularly if one were to do it on a commercial basis with clients.
Hey guys, I have a little quiz for you. Donât worry itâs really, really simple, and you donât need any special equipment, just your eyes and your fingers (well, and something to type on, which I presume youâre already looking at ).
Which of these images do you think might be AI generated? You can answer none, one, or more than one. If you donât say ânoneâ, just type the image name(s), and please include a very brief explanation why you made the choice you made.
Thank you for playing along. Iâll reveal the answer after everyoneâs had a chance to guess.
Image 1
Image 2
Image 3
Image 4
Image 5
Image 4. The shadows do not match
Cool idea!
Here are my guesses:
Photo 01: Apart from the owl, everything looks absolutely real and the focus is clearly on the center of the picture. However, the owl looks kind of fake to me. But since I am not familiar with owls at all, I say it âcouldâ be AI generated.
Photo 05: Itâs strange that the lionâs fur looks so absolutely perfect. There doesnât seem to be any breeze at all, which seems to be extraordinary. So for me itâs possible that itâs AI generated.
Interesting challenge. Iâm looking forward to the resolution.
when you search pics with âlion savanna on a stoneâ you can find AI pics and real ones. an AI generated lion never looks so natural.
to generate a pic like 2 is easy for AI, because interieur rooms like that are common since long time by 3D aps rendering that natural look.
it is also a difference, if AI combines pics (possible in 1 and 4) or generates it complete. 1 and 4 i could also do.
if pic 1 is combined, itâs perfect. i say itâs original. when i zoom in, i can not see any difference in the resolution or left parts of the owl pic, that does not belong to the owl, that coveres any part of the tree or the other way around.
the thing with the shadows, that jabbath mentioned, is possible AI because a halfway professional human would not make mistakes like that when combining the owl with the background.
i say the owl and the background itself in pic 4 are not generated by AI. just combined ifâŚ
completely AI generated: image 2
AI combined: image 4
Did you make a guess? Iâm not sure if you did. Could you list whichever one(s) you may think are AI generated?
There is a certain quality to every single one of these images that COULD mean they are ALL generated by AI.
Targeting specific ones however, I would say images 3 (the poppy) and 5 (the lion) are definitely AI generated.
One way to identify such an image is to look for a tell tale softness to the over all quality of the image. The lion picture certain has this, very visibly in its appearance. The poppy picture just doesnât look quite right, to be natural, hence my feeling that it too is arificial in its origin.
I will look forward to you telling us the answerâŚ
I was hoping a few more people might participate. If not, Iâll post the answer a little bit later.
Yes OK, thank youâŚ
I am actually quite curious (and eager to find out) about it now.
I think we shall think that 3 and 5 (Flower and Lion) are AI generated but in fact they are not. I think only 4 (The one with he owl and the mouse) is AI generated as the shadows do not match at all there.
Or it is some kind of hoax and all of them are generated by AI. I say image 4 or all of them
I also suspected this possibility from the outset. But the challenge is so interesting that at first I really just judged with my eyes and then made a choice to meet the rules of the game. I only âcheatedâ afterwards and I think I know the answer.
But of course I leave it to the moderator to announce the resolution.
edit:
In number 4, I think that the owl and the mouse cannot cast a shadow that we as viewers can logically see because the light seems to come from the left and from the front - and not from above.
For me, this is the photo that looks the most real of all.
I thought that as well as the AI usually has a hard time getting all the shadows right. And the shadows there look good to meâŚ
If itâs AI, itâs outstanding. The shadows are right, the lettering on the lighting is right and a few other small details. But what convinces me the most is the way the daylight floods into the entire room. The light gradient is perfect and creates a real atmosphere.
