Watching Kye and Nena, listening to this music took me back 30 years… a woman, after our two years of a fairytale relationship, left and went over the seas. Her husband decided to move and she didn’t dare leave him. It broke my heart, and I have never forgotten her. It took me a few months to come to myself. Those months were hell for me. I left the company, locked myself in my flat, and read her letters. I cried, I admit it.
Six months after she left, I received her letter:
“My husband has taken me to the theater to see a performance of The Phantom of the Opera. It broke my heart, I made a big mistake. Please forgive me.”
I forgave her but never forgot her. Years later, friends invited me to see a performance of The Phantom of the Opera in our town. I did not go. I didn’t dare, I was afraid.
Years later I learned that they had returned to their hometown. To this day, when I drive past, I hope to see her somewhere.
A few years ago I found her d______r on Facebook. I asked her to say hello to her m____r and to tell her that the memory of The Phantom of the Opera is still alive. And not to be surprised if mummy doesn’t remember what I’m talking about.
Three days later, I received a message:
“I still remember.”
And that was the end of the story. It is something that I will take to my grave and events like today reminded me of that time.
