It sounds better with an owl. I don’t know if English has such an equivalent, so I took a chance.
This would be the kind of thing I had in mind where traditionally, it’s a cuckoo that comes out of the hole at the top, every hour. It even makes the “cuckoo” sound (literally its own name) for the number of times that signify whatever hour it is.
