Because Christmas in Russia is on Friday, 7 January as they follow the Russian orthodox church and in some of the South American realms you will see that Chritsmas is celebrated on Christmas Eve the same as most catholic countries including here in Poland.
Christmas day for catholic countries is more about visiting family with a meal in the afternoon, but that doesn’t apply to Russian states, but they have adopted some of the western traditions, hence the decorations that you will see.
