I have no idea why we call it like that though as âangle valveâ sounds much more logical. 
That is how we say in German (Eckventil)
Thatâs an isolator valve for a washbasin and sometimes they freeze up and will not turn off if they havenât been turned for many years.
I think was the case here last night and what they were searching for was the main inlet pipe to the house that has a stopcock turning off the main supply of water to the house.
