A man is taking a long walk by the lake. As he strolls along the waterfront, he sees a woman in the lake flailing her arms wildly. She is drowning! He jumps into the water, pulls her to the shore, and begins resuscitation. He moves her arms up and down repeatedly—like a water pump—and every time he does, a jet of water shoots out of the woman’s mouth. This goes on for a few minutes. Then, a man comes running up and says, “You’re doing it wrong!” “I’m not doing anything wrong,” says Thomas. “I’m a paramedic; I know what I’m doing!” The other man replies, “Yes, and I’m an engineer. As long as the woman’s butt is still in the water, all you’re doing is pumping the lake dry!”
