The closest/actual English expression that @Max_Muster was looking for is as I posted.
‘plays the tune’ does not mean ‘calls the tune’. ‘Calls the tune’ means decides what tunes is played / can tell the piper (not whistler) what to play.

I felt something was missing after Fox left this project. how to get Fox interested to come back here. 3 days without seeing him broadcast, feels empty in the heart. Although there are many other apartments that provide interesting shows, but cannot attract interest to watch them, compared to if Fox broadcasts live. Really feel like losing him. @Fox please come back here. i really need to see you live again.
