However, NATO only intervened in the Kosovo war because Milošević did not want to sign the Rambouillet treaty that NATO had drawn up.
OK, no NATO member was attacked, but NATO had committed to peace with the treaty. That was supposedly reason enough for NATO to bomb Yugoslavia.
Something like that can’t be implemented in Ukraine, because NATO doesn’t want a nuclear war. And intervention would undoubtedly prompt Russia to use nuclear weapons.
There was added something (I do not remember right now what it was) in the last minute NATO knew Serbia could not accept. This treaty was basically a declaration of war. But we are getting off topic
@Lukas156546 yes I think so too. Poland suffered a hell of a lot in the past and it seems Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has really prompted them to do this. It’s sad to see but Poland has the right to defend itself. This new development sends a strong message to Moscow.
This has seriously backfired for Putin. I think the longer this goes on the worse it will be on so many levels for Russia globally.
In recent weeks, Ukraine’s successes have allowed them to launch their own counteroffensives to take back formerly occupied territory in the south and eastern regions of the country. A counteroffensive near Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, appeared to catch Russia by surprise, f_____g them to retreat from key cities such as Izium.
A second counteroffensive in Kherson—a southern city strategically located near Crimea, the territory Russia annexed in 2014—has seen slower progress since it began in August. Russia and Ukraine continue to battle for control of the area, with British intelligence indicating Moscow is now ramping up attacks against civilian infrastructure amid losses.
However, some Russian troops have now found themselves “sandwiched” between Ukrainian f___es and the Dnipro River, Nataliya Humenyuk, who serves as the head of the joint press center of Ukrainian Defense F___es of the South, said during an appearance on the Ukrainian parliament’s television channel on Monday.
“The fire control that we maintain over crossings and transport arteries across the Dnipro makes them understand that they are sandwiched between the defense f___es and the right bank—units that are in this part of the Kherson region,” she said, according to The New Voice of Ukraine.

She added that Russian troops were offered a way out “under the auspices of international humanitarian law” or were given the chance to return to their home.
Humenyuk also said she received information that Russian troops were demoralized and that some don’t see any need to stay trapped between Ukrainian troops at the Dnipro River, according to The New Voice of Ukraine.

Oh my God this just goes to show how dumb and ill-informed a lot of Russians are. Some of them interviewed here really do believe their own bull s__t, or at least Putin’s. They are in complete denial and cannot take responsibility for '‘RUSSIA’S’ actions. So they actually think Russia isn’t to blame for anything???
Europe and NATO need to step up supplies going into Ukraine.
Are you glad that Europe is going to have energy crisis?
35 million Russians live in homes without an indoor toilet.
47 million Russians do not have hot water.
29 million Russians do not have running water.
22 million cannot heat their homes.
Apart from Moscow and St. Petersburg the whole country is 3rd world. Living conditions like in Africa. Africa but with a lot of bad vodka and people dying from premature _____ing. And a lot of Orthodoxy to keep you from hunger and warmth.
@John78 that’s shocking in this day and age considering how much natural wealth the nation has. Obviously there is obscene wealth too not given to the people.
I wonder when or how Russian people will wake up to what’s really going on? But thank you for sharing this.
Must admit i was rather shocked at those stats.
Current Russian population is 146 million approx so the stats above are 133 million which leaves around 10 million having the wealth, wow, rather mind blowing.
Far from the impression most of the west would have of Russia i would imagine.
So the ones on VH must think they have found the promised land then.
cc @John78
The current war is estimated to cost russia between 700 and 800 millions a day. Now just imagine what could have been done for them millions of people that live in total poverty with some of them…
But the Kremlin will say to these very people that all their suffering is solely due to the evil West and that is why Russia is at war with Ukraine.
And these suckers believe the Kremlin. That’s the problem. Russian propaganda is only aimed at misinformation from its own population in order to be able to present itself with a snow-white slate.
Hi John, a very interesting set of statistics and you mention Moscow and St Petersburg but I can’t get my head round the fact that there are dozens of other large cities in Russia that don’t appear to be poverty stricken as in Katerinburg for instance. The +6 and +7 realms seem to be OK and they must be hundreds of miles away.Just to be clear I totally abhor everything Putin is doing and wish for a total outright victory for Ukraine.
