I have a question for anyone. When Queen was here, we never called her the Queen. Why do you guys call Duchess, the Duchess? It’s not a title, it’s just her name. I’m just curious.
We call her Duchess because it’s the name she was given when queen was here we called her queen for the same reason

I’m fairly sure you can clearly see that wasn’t my question.
That doesn’t answer it either. It would still be Duchess, or even John’s Duchess, if you were being cute, but not the Duchess, which would mean it’s a title and not her name.
A play on words would be something like a pun or a metonymy, as just two examples.
My question was, why use the word “the” before her name, which elevates it to a title, such as “the King” or “the Prince”, which it isn’t. It’s just her name.
As I said, I’m just curious, but would prefer an answer, rather than conjecture or supposition. Thanks.
